Affiliate Marketing Page Optimization

PDF Print E-mail

If there is one thing I can’t emphasize enough when it comes to affiliate marketing, it is that the affiliate must do the “selling” and the merchant must do the “closing”. Too many times I see affiliates creating banner farms and useless collections of affiliate links and they expect to sit back and start cashing in the checks.

Nowadays, the competition is more intense and site visitors have higher quality standards than ever before. An affiliate must create strategic sales pages and create unique content that describes every detail of the product or service they are trying to sell. The recurring mistake I see affiliates making is that they don’t give the customer enough information, which causes the customer to leave.

Remember the following page optimization tips when creating your individual affiliate product pages and you will be able to retain your site visitors for a longer period of time.

  • Title Tag - Include product name in the title.
  • Meta Description - Include product name in the description.
  • Meta Keywords - Include product name in the description.
  • IMG Tags - Do not leave empty ALT tags on your pages.
  • Links on Page - Make sure there are sufficient links to other relevant pages.
  • File Size - Keep you file size below 20k.
  • Script - Do not use JavaScript, VBScript or Flash for best results.
  • Frames - Never use frames.
  • Words in File - Do not use too much content on the page. Keep between 150 and 450 words.
  • H1 Tag Used - Make sure H1 Tag is in 'clean' format (ie < H1 >). It is very important to do so.
  • Occurrences of keyword in file - Keep your product keyword density between 2% - 4%.
  • Favicon - Make sure there is a favicon present for the website.

Put some time into building individual product splash pages and you will most likely see your conversion rates increase and people will bookmark your site and return in the future.
